Flowing Hair half-dollar silver coin |
Flowing Hair fifty-cent pieces were first minted in 1794, followed by the Draped Bust type in 1796, and the Capped Bust type halfdollar in 1807 through 1839, at Philadelphia and eventually, New Orleans. Each design has several variations, including lettered edges on some silver half-dollar coins.

Liberty Seated half-dollars |
The seated Liberty half-dollars were produced at the Philadelphia and New Orleans mints, and later also at Carson City and San Francisco, from 1839 through 1891. There were many different variations of the Liberty seated fifty cent pieces.

Liberty head fifty-cent pieces – also known as Barber half dollars – were minted from 1892 through 1915 at New Orleans, Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco.

Franklin-Liberty Bell 50-cent piece |
Franklin half-dollars were minted from 1948 through 1963 at Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco. The fifty-cent piece was designed by John Sinnock, who also designed the Roosevelt dime. The Franklin half dollar is also called the Liberty Bell half-dollar.
